The Eze-Elect of Amasa Ancient Kingdom in Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area of Abia State, Chief Godfrey Ogbonna Kanu, has applauded the Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti, for quality leadership and holistic development of communities across the state.
Speaking in an interview after he was unanimously presented to the Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Council officials, Chief Godfrey Kanu stated that Governor Otti has performed remarkably well since assuming office, noting that Abia State would have become a shining example if such leadership had been witnessed over the years.
The Eze-elect, who emerged as the people’s choice, was the pioneer President General of Amasa Progressive Union and a chieftain of the Labour Party.
He declared: “The administration of Governor Otti is fantastic. He has transformed Abia State through qualitative and holistic development that touches all sectors. If he continues for the next four years, Abia will be an El Dorado. We have not had it this good for a long time. The Governor has prepared Abia to take off, and once we take off, we will go far.”
“He has accomplished numerous remarkable achievements in various parts of the state within a short time in office, and I am convinced that he has indeed come to change the narrative in Abia State. Given his current trajectory, I am confident he will make Abia State a source of pride for the nation.
“I urge all Abians to continue to support Governor Otti’s administration because he has performed very well, executing numerous projects and ensuring a holistic infrastructural development for the benefit of the people.
The Eze-Elect called on the people of Osisioma and Abia at large to sustain their support for the Governor for a more impactful second term.
“With what Governor Otti has accomplished in such a short time, if he is given another chance, Abia will surely be the number one state in Nigeria,” he declared.
Speaking on his plans for the people, Chief Kanu said he would facilitate the establishment of skills acquisition centres for youth training, noting: “Our youths need skills. I will put in a lot of effort in ensuring that the youths are gainfully employed.”
According to the Eze-Elect, “Throughout my career as a civil servant, I facilitated the employment of not less than 200 people, and I used my position to impact on people’s lives.
“I facilitated the training of our youths through the National Directorate of Employment, NDE, in Umuahia South Local Government Area. I arranged for their training in batches of 20 youths. They learnt different types of skills. I have empowered a lot of youths, and I also assisted them in getting employment.”
Chief Godfrey Kanu observed: “As the pioneer President General of the Amasa Town Union for many years, we set the pace for other town unions. I have travelled far and wide, which allowed me to see good things in other places that I brought home to my people during my tenure as the President General of the town union.”
According to him, he was instrumental to the electrification of the community and provision of pipe-borne water for the people. He stressed the need for peace in the community, noting that without peace, unity and development would elude the people.
The Eze-Elect advised government authorities to properly define the duties of autonomous communities and treat them as the fourth tier of government. “I would like to see a situation where their roles are well spelt out. They should assist local governments and ensure that the state government’s projects and programmes reach the grassroots. For instance, on sanitation days, people in the hinterland hardly participate, but we all need to imbibe the culture of cleanliness for our health.”
He expressed optimism that his reign would usher in stability and sustainable development in his domain, urging the people to support and cooperate with him.
