The Hall of Igbo Achievers Foundation (HIAF), a nongovernmental organisation (NGO), has declared the Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, as the winner of its maiden 2025 Best South-East Governor of the Year Award.

A statement by Nze Sam Nwanze, foundation’s chief executive officer and editor-in-chief, Igbo Book of Records, said a seven-man selection committee set up by its Board of Directors and headed by a well-known cleric, Archbishop Emeritus of the Anglican Communion, Enugu, Dr. Emmanuel Olisa Chukwuma, adjudged Governor Mbah as the best performing governor, among his brother-governors of the South East states, in several sectors, particularly education, healthcare, transportation (land and air), provision of road infrastructure in urban and rural areas and security.

Nwanze, in a statement by Mike Ubani, executive director of the Foundation and executive editor of the Igbo Book of Records, noted with admiration and profound satisfaction, Governor Mbah’s prioritisation of the education sector as a foundation and fulcrum of his “Tomorrow is Here” development agenda, particularly through consistent increase in the budgetary allocation leading to the construction of Smart Green Schools in each of the 260 electoral wards in the state.

In his personally signed acknowledgement letter, Governor Mbah thanked the Hall of Igbo Achievers Foundation for what he described as “a prestigious recognition which I accept with humility and a strong sense of responsibility.

“This honour goes beyond me as an individual, it belongs to my entire team working tirelessly to reposition our state for sustainable growth and development.”

Mr. Nwanze announced that Mbah would be conferred with the award at a ceremony scheduled to hold on Thursday, April 16, at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Enugu by 12 noon.

The event will also feature the conferment of the first edition of the organisation’s “Great Igbo Achievers With Integrity and Excellence Awards,” to 21 distinguished Igbo sons and daughters, which include the Chairman of Enugu State Council of Traditional Rulers, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Samuel Asadu, Professor Ume Okafor, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Enugu State Teaching Hospital, Nsukka and the public presentation of the second edition of Igbo Book of Records and the Igbo Digest Newspaper.

The Hall of Igbo Achievers Foundation was deliberately conceived as a veritable vehicle to promote Igbo heritage and culture, as well as identify and honour Igbo sons and daughters, who by dint of hard work, achieved success in their various fields of endeavour.
