Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has called on women to take active roles in the development of their communities, describing their contribution as vital to the progress of the state.
The governor made the call during the turbaning of Barrister Sa’adat Yunusa Muhammad as Gimbiyar Dange among others by the Sarkin Bauran Dange, Alhaji Bello Usman.
Represented by the Commissioner for Water Resources, Aminu Dodo Iya, Governor Aliyu described the recognition as a reflection of the growing appreciation of women’s roles in leadership and community development.
He expressed confidence that the honouree would bring her professional expertise and passion for service to bear in advancing the state’s growth.
In his remarks, the District Head of Dange, Alhaji Bello Usman, said the conferment was in recognition of Barrister Sa’adat’s dedication to community service, women’s empowerment, and education.

He also conferred the title of Mayanan Dange on her husband, Barrister Ahmad Muhammad Musa, noting the couple’s shared commitment to uplifting their community.
Also speaking, Barrister Hafsat Sahabi Dange commended the monarch’s inclusive leadership, recalling the pivotal roles women such as Nana Asma’u, daughter of Shehu Usmanu Danfodiyo, played in advancing education and social reform.
In her response, Barrister Sa’adat Yunusa Muhammad pledged to serve diligently and to support women and youth empowerment initiatives through her Sa’ar Mata Foundation.
As part of her turbaning activities, she paid humanitarian visits to the Specialist Hospital, Sokoto, and IDP camps, where she distributed cash and relief items to women and the less privileged.
The event attracted government officials, traditional rulers, and community leaders, and featured traditional music and cultural displays celebrating the heritage of the Dange people.
