Gov Alia commends Benue youths for safeguarding truck of cattle involved in accident

Benue State Governor Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia has commended youths of Tyowanye community in Buruku Local Government Area (LGA), for organizing themselves and safeguarding a truck loaded with cows which was involved in an accident around the community.

Governor Alia gave the commendation when he visited the accident scene to sympathized with the cattle herders who lost their cows while their people sustained injuries.

Our correspondent gathered that the cattle were being conveyed from Kaduna state to Calabar, in Cross River state when the incident happened in Tyowanye community.

The Governor who spoke through his Special Adviser on Security, Chief Joseph Har, also appreciated the Commander of Livestock Guards in Buruku LGA, Mr Aondowase and the entire youths of Tyowanye for mobilizing themselves to guard and protect the cattle instead of rustling them.

“You have invoked the age long character of the Tiv people and exhibiting same. That a truck conveying cattle had an accident in Tyowanye and you chose to safeguard the truck and both the ones that are dead and those alive is enough for you to be praised.

“You kept vigil throughout the night, no single cow was rustled until the cattle are safely reloaded into another truck. This is absolutely commendable”, Har said.

“I believe that the Alia led government is a sincere, honest and transparent one which holds peaceful coexistence as a cardinal feature and you must support him.

“What you have done today will not go unrewarded even by God as it is a right step to the return of peace and cultural integrity in the land”.

Also speaking, Commander 401 Brigade Makurdi, Brigadier General B. Rabiu, said youths of Ityowanye community have demonstrated uncommon love and care for fellow country men for providing security at such a material time.

Brigadier General Rabiu, who stopped at the accident scene while on his way to Taraba State after he got the information said, “I was timely and promptly informed by the Security Adviser to the Governor, Chief Joseph Har about this incident, but what I see you guys doing here is quite commendable.”

“Your gesture would further boost the efforts that the state government is already making to ensure a lasting peace, because without security, no meaningful development could take place.”
