Gombe State Police Command has arrested over 60 suspected kidnappers, armed robbers, thugs and internet fraudsters. Commissioner of Police, Umar Chuso, said: “The command is intensifying its fight against violent crime and cyber-related offences. Proactive measures are being implemented to strengthen public safety and crime prevention.
“In line with the vision of IGP Olatunji Disu on intelligence-led and community-oriented policing, the command has implemented measures to combat thuggery, drug abuse and other social vices.
“The command has flagged off Police Campaigns Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOU) to embark on public sanitisation and outreach against thuggery, drug abuse and other criminal activities, particularly in educational institutions and communities, to promote responsible citizenship and prevent crimes.
“We have dismantled and arrested an eight-man criminal syndicate, who specialises in armed robbery and internet fraud. The suspects attacked their victims and cast away their mobile phones. They obtained stolen devices to gain unauthorised access to victims’ bank accounts, fraudulently withdrew N206,790,000 and obtained additional N205,205,000 through a quick loan facility. offences

“Operatives coordinated joint raid operations targeting identified black spots and criminal hideouts within Gombe metropolis. They arrested 44 suspects for drug abuse.
“The command also intensified enforcement against vehicles operating uncovered, defaced, concealed, or altered, and those without registration number plates. We impounded 121 vehicles and 114 offenders were prosecuted for offences contrary to Section 67(1) of the National Road Traffic Regulation and Section 10(3) of the Road Traffic Act 2012
