Nestlé Nigeria’s beloved breakfast cereal, Golden Morn, has introduced a new sustainable packaging, marking a significant milestone in the brand’s long-standing commitment to both providing nutritious food and championing environmental responsibility. This move is not just a packaging update, but a reflection of Golden Morn’s 38-year legacy of nourishing Nigerian families while taking strides towards a more sustainable future.
The new packaging is part of Nestlé’s global vision to enhance the recyclability of its products, aiming to ensure that more than 95% of its plastic packaging is recyclable by 2025. The newly launched Golden Morn packaging utilizes materials that are easier to recycle, a significant improvement from the previous aluminum foil packaging. This change not only reduces environmental impact but also supports the broader concept of a circular economy, where materials are continuously reused, reducing the burden on natural resources.
Wassim Elhusseini, Managing Director of Nestlé Nigeria, emphasized the company’s dual responsibility: providing nutritious products while safeguarding the planet for future generations. He proudly noted that more than 80% of all Nestlé packaging in Nigeria is now optimized for recycling. “We are happy that Golden Morn’s packaging has been upgraded to a designed-for-recycling laminate,” Elhusseini stated. “By embracing recyclable materials, we are not only minimizing waste but also reinforcing our leadership in environmental stewardship within the industry.”
Golden Morn has been a staple in Nigerian households for over three decades, known for offering a delicious and wholesome start to the day. Made from locally sourced maize and soya, the cereal is packed with essential vitamins and minerals, including vitamins A, B1, B5, C, and iron, making it a nutritious choice for families across the country. The introduction of 100% recyclable laminate packaging aligns with the brand’s commitment to sustainability without compromising on the quality and nutrition that consumers have come to trust.
Omofasa Orhiunu, Category Manager for Dairy at Nestlé Nigeria, highlighted the brand’s broader mission beyond just being a breakfast cereal. “Golden Morn is more than just a breakfast cereal; it’s a brand driven by purpose, dedicated to nourishing families across Nigeria, while protecting the planet for the next generation,” Orhiunu remarked. The new sustainable packaging underscores this mission, ensuring that the cereal continues to deliver the same great taste and nutrition, now with an added environmental benefit.
Moreover, Golden Morn’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond packaging. The brand sources 100% of its maize and soya locally, working closely with Nigerian farmers to ensure the freshness and quality of its ingredients. This partnership not only guarantees a superior product but also bolsters the local economy and empowers farming communities, reinforcing Nestlé’s dedication to both people and the planet.
With the launch of this eco-friendly packaging, Golden Morn continues to set a high standard for sustainability in the Nigerian food industry, staying true to its promise of nourishing Nigerians while protecting the environment.
