From Noah Ebije, Kaduna

Stakeholders of Kaduna State chapter of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have vowed to wrest power from the All Progressive Congress (APC) in 2027, admitting that God and the people will not forgive them for being politically ineffective since 2015.

Speaking to newsmen shortly after he inaugurated his  campaign team for the forthcoming chairmanship election of PDP,  one of the candidates, Edward Percy Masha, lamented that Kaduna people were suffering and needed PDP to rescue them in 2027.

“We will change the system of doing things. We will not keep quiet, our people are suffering, people and God will not forgive us if we don’t take power from APC in 2027. The people  depend on us to shout on government. Government is doing what they can do because nobody is talking.  On the forthcoming  local government election, we are going to campaign from house to house. We will do one on one campaign. We will strengthen our wards and polling units and safeguard our votes.

“As soon as I am elected, I will organise something more like a conference for the party leaders and sit down and ask ourselves questions. We will review so many things; what happened in 2015, what happened in 2019, what happened in 2023. We will then proffer solutions on how to move forward.

“We will now agree on operandi of operations on how we can protect our votes, how to go about our campaigns, we will have a roadmap to our success. People are tired but we are not going to take anything for granted and above all we need to forgive ourselves, we also need to be patient with one another. And I can tell you we will take power from the ruling party.

“Let me commend the present leadership of our party, they have done their best. It might not be what is expected of them. What we intend to do, we will have a research department that carries out research about the activities of the party. We should know when to attack, when to speak, we will be constructive in our speeches, where we need to attack we will attack. We will have information at the State Assembly and the National Assembly.

“We called for this meeting today because when I decided to go into the race, as a matter of fact I went round to make consultations and in my consultations I appealed to zone one and two to allow the chairmanship to be zoned to three. I begged the elders in zone three to reach out to all the stakeholders and leaders of our party in zone one and two.

“And they allowed us to zone it to three to allow us to produce the chairman. When that one was done, I expressed my gratitude to the leadership of our party and the zoning committee for zoning it to zone three. I started reaching out too because it gave me impetus and strength.

“The committee recommended that the chairmanship should be zoned to Jema’a local government area, my own local government. I am also happy that the caucus endorsed the position of the executive. This now gave me the strength to inaugurate my campaign team today. This campaign team are volunteers and well wishers who believe in me. And that is why we gathered today to set the ball rolling.

“I will be in zone three to tell them the message why PDP needs to move from it is, and I think I have what it takes with my private and public experiences to move the party to a higher height. The first idea that I will bring into the party is to let everybody knows that he or she is an important member of the party. To reach to those who felt aggrieved and left the party to bring them back.

“We are rebranding the party to retain the strength of the younger ones. And that is why I am coming on board as a bridge between the old and the younger ones. The younger ones have the strength, ability, zeality, we need to tap from their technological knowledge so that we can use them to achieve development. Women that were hitherto recognised as women leader, will be made to participate fully so that we can get positive results. We will sit down and reconcile ourselves, accommodate different views about the party. We don’t want to shut anybody down from the party. We want a larger house accommodate all our members,” Masha said.
