The Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Aliyu Abdullahi, has emphasised the huge impact that TELA Maize will have on the country’s food security owing to its high yielding potential.
The minister said recently at an event that TELA maize’s ability to yield bumper harvests to farmers will go a long way in solving the food crisis facing the country.
He said, “the issue with TELA maize is that it is high yielding, which means the present yield farmers are making will be more than double. From two to three tonnes, we are going to get upwards of nine to 10 tonnes. That explains why we went into this research in the first instance, so that we are able to guarantee sustainable production of maize year on and year off.”

Senator Abdullahi lamented that, “what is challenging us now is the issue of climate change, especially in the most productive regions where you produce maize.”
The minister who regarded TELA maize as ‘Renewed Hope Maize’ noted that “President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda has food security as a major component but beyond that, we are also interested in economic growth and job creation.
The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security is totally committed.
“And I would like to say that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu actually understands the value of seed and that is why in his manifesto he said, feed an entire nation. For us, TELA Maize is Renewed Hope Maize.”
