Glovo has launched a new road safety feature on its rider application in partnership with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). This reinforces its commitment to improving rider protection, road safety education and responsible technology use across Nigeria.
The initiative, unveiled in Lagos, also included a Road Safety Training programme for riders, with a similar session scheduled to hold in Abuja, marking a strategic effort to strengthen safety awareness within Nigeria’s fast-growing digital mobility ecosystem.
Speaking at the launch, Glovo Nigeria’s Interim General Manager, Reni Onafeko, said the innovation reflects the company’s long-term safety and sustainability strategy in the country.
“The launch of this new feature reflects our commitment to building a culture of prevention rather than reaction,” Onafeko said. “By equipping riders with real-time data about their riding behaviour, we are empowering them to make safer decisions every day. This initiative is about protection, education, and continuous improvement. Our approach combines innovation, partnership, and human-centred design. We are not just introducing a feature; we are reinforcing our responsibility to protect the people who power our platform every day,” she added. She explained that the safety feature operates on an opt-in basis, allowing riders to voluntarily activate the tool to monitor and improve their riding behaviour using data-driven insights.
Onafeko added that collaboration with regulators remains central to the initiative. “By working closely with regulators and organising safety training for riders, we are contributing to safer roads and a more sustainable ecosystem in Nigeria,” she said.
Representing the Lagos State Government, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transportation Education and Innovation, Oluwatobi Idowu, praised the programme and urged riders to fully participate in the training sessions.

The Assistant Corps Commander, Lagos Sector Command of the FRSC, Philip Ogah, who represented Sector Commander Corps Commander Kehinde G. Hamzat, commended Glovo for promoting continuous safety education for riders.
“Learning is a continuous process. As a rider, you must always be prepared before going on the road. This kind of training makes riders more informed and improves road behaviour,” Ogah said.
He added that technology-driven safety tools are becoming increasingly important for modern road safety management, noting that such initiatives help protect not just riders but other road users as well.
The Head of Operations at Glovo Nigeria, Oluwaseun Okugboye-Bello, said the feature was designed to promote self-improvement and safer interactions within the platform’s delivery ecosystem.
“Beyond technology deployment, the feature also focuses on creating awareness through continuous education content embedded in the rider app and structured safety sessions,” he said.
At the end of the training session, certificates were presented to 70 participating riders. The event was attended by senior officials of the FRSC, highlighting the importance of public-private collaboration in improving road safety standards in Nigeria.
