At the recent World Health Assembly (WHA) in Geneva, Hon. Amos Gwamna Magaji, Chairman of the House Committee on Healthcare Services, played a crucial role in advancing Nigeria’s health agenda on the international stage. His efforts emphasized the country’s commitment to Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and strengthening the national health system.

Hon. Magaji engaged key global health partners including the World Health Organization (WHO), the Global Fund, and GAVI, advocating for increased support in areas such as immunization, disease control, and healthcare financing reforms. He also highlighted the National Assembly’s legislative initiatives aimed at expanding health insurance and enhancing accountability in health spending.

> “Nigeria is dedicated to transforming its healthcare landscape,” Hon. Magaji said. “Collaboration with global partners is essential to achieving health for all Nigerians.”

The Nigerian delegation, led by Coordinating Minister of Health Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate and Minister of State for Health Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, demonstrated strong coordination throughout the Assembly. Hon. Magaji’s participation further cemented the role of legislative leadership in driving health sector reforms.

Recognized for his leadership, Hon. Magaji was invited to join a global working group focused on parliamentary oversight of UHC, highlighting Nigeria’s increasing influence in global health governance.

Returning from Geneva, Hon. Magaji pledged to intensify efforts to pass key health legislation and ensure adequate funding for Nigeria’s health priorities.
