Glo: 20 years of supersonic pacesetting

Ebere

‘The proudly Nigerian telecoms powerhouse’ is 20 years old today in its provision of telephonic-cum-digital services and holistic market leadership widely acclaimed by regulatory and supervisory agencies, by competition and by its quadrupling clientele. At the helm of this inimitable revolution and its unprecedentedly concomitant transformation of lives is the indefatigable Globacom Chairman, Dr. Mike Adenuga Jr., GCON, the godsend bullish guru of this generation.

Did you know that “empowerment is encoded in Globacom’s DNA”? The latest manifestation of its unequalled subscriber enablement is the serial gifting of life-changing prizes. Between November 2022 and January 2023, Glo gave out 20 three-bedroom houses nationwide, 24 brand-new cars, 100 generators, 200 sewing machines and 1,000 rechargeable fans. Just before the ‘Festival of Joy’, there had been 180 ‘tear-nylon’ cars given out in 180 days, among other mouth-watering giveaways.

Spectacular draws for the foregoing were held in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Onitsha, Ibadan, Kano, Benin, Uyo, Calabar, Enugu, Ilorin, Jos and Warri. Pundits with raised eyebrows at these venues were agape at the testamentary ceremonies endorsed by the National Lottery Regulatory Commission and witnessed by eminent Nigerians.

In its embryonic circumstances, most people had erroneously thought that Globacom would not survive the vicissitudes of entrepreneurship in Nigeria because the ease of doing business here is axphyxatingly suffocative, particularly when the mechanistic government of that locust era symbolized by third-term fiasco inexplicably and irrationally indulged in semblances of witch-hunt, investment sabotage amid multiplicative taxation, policy summersaults and infrastructural paucity!

Let me blow my trumpet on this celebratory occasion of Globacom’s commemoration: it is on record (vide Daily Sun, Friday, October 8, 2005, Back Page) that I was one of the very few Nigerians who believed in the survivalist tendencies and potentialities of Globacom simply because of the robust pedigree of its sole promoter, his deep pocket of almost immeasurable opulence and people’s goodwill to his existing blue-chip conglomerates catalyzed by his unparalleled philanthropic inclinations that attract unimaginable divine recompense for everything he engages in. His investment template has zero tolerance for corruption, failure, incapacity, incompetency and slothfulness in all ramifications—an aversion which explains Globacom’s dominance of Nigeria’s telecoms space.

After 20 years of economic revolution that has become Globacom’s typicality, the transformative underpinnings of the telecoms giant are now visible to those with the Nigerian dogged spirit of persistence and resilience irrespective of drawbacks and institutional challenges. The success resolution of the sole promoter of this communicative establishment remains the exclusive driving force behind Globacom’s sectoral leadership and invaluable inspiration to trailing competition.

Nigerians can never forget Globacom’s unprecedented intervention in the redefinition of their speech chemistry and the telephonic re-engineering that induced it. If not for Globacom’s first pacesetting clientele liberation, we would inevitably have been haplessly subjected to paying through our nose for the calls we make and other allied engagements that require telephony and digitalization in exponential spectrums. For this emancipatory initiative, Nigerians will eternally remain grateful to Globacom on grounds of its pioneering per-second billing instrumentality which revolutionized the entirety of our talk mannerisms, conversational profile and internet-utility regime devoid of charging apprehension which culminates in morbid hastiness!

This brand must be commended for its seamless 20-year empowerment novelties that have redefined existential humanism for innumerable Nigerians in the past two decades and still counting. According to Globacom, never in the history of loyalty-reward promotions has any company in Nigeria offered so much to its customers. Indeed, Globacom has always blazed the trail in loyalty-reward schemes since it began operations. In this regard, it has, over the years, launched a series of robust promos through which different types of empowerment prizes have been won by Nigerians across the country. From Glo Overload to Glo Allawee, Text4Millions, Made for Life, Recharge to Stardom, 180 cars in 180 days, Glo CAF Award promo, Recharge and Win Big popularly known as My Own Don Beta, Everyday Bonanza and Joy Unlimited Extravaganza.

With what the Spirit of Africa has done on the continent and continues to water entrepreneurial engagements that are flourishing like lilies planted on the seashore, he should be in the news every day, possibly, but because he is not given to banality, he tries to discourage a few of us who do these writings at our own risk. This also rationalizes his damning indifference to media savagery by the tribe of extortionists, hacks, mercenaries and mercantilists.

It is gratifying to underscore the fact that Glo is not in any way circumscribed as it keeps demonstrating resounding leadership and virtually conquering the communicative ecology here amid perfunctory challenge and spineless resistance by competition!

A believer in the Eucharist of nothingness of life, Dr. Adenuga gifts across borders without any ethnic or religious encumbrances. I have a feeling that what appears to people as the superfluity of gifting may indeed be the reason God endlessly keeps opening more and more expansive doors to him. The copious streams of investments and Forbes’ rendition of his pound-dollar-Euro per-second (this fundamentally messianic phrase again!) accruals defy explicatory profiling. The Guru’s philosophy hallmarks business Darwinism which is predicated on the summit survival of the fittest, a development that signposts Globacom and other corporate citizens in the supranational Mike Adenuga Group.

Lest we forget, the quintessence of Globacom’s human capital which has built a world-class company is itself a subject for another day. The cerebral and non-supervisory etiquette here is confirmatory of the exemplification of premium service delivery, efficiency and effectiveness in all perceptive spheres of the Globacom entity. I take off my hat to all my consummate buddies here—most especially the scholastic PR team of yore—from my ambassadorial pedestal as a former professorial PR manager in our (yes!) supersonic pacesetting firm! The totality of Globacom’s premium personnel is justificatory of its numero uno status.

Dr. Adenuga’s consanguineous philanthropy, inimitable compassion and boundless existential humanism amid near-superfluity-cum-profundity of profuse humility distinguish him globally. By virtue of his illimitable sovereignty over exponential opulence, he can never be in lack—even in the next world because of the currency of his boundless and borderless human redemption! That’s my re-affirmative supplication for him and Globacom—as it begins the third-decade trajectory.

Nigeria would have been a better place if we had 20 more compassionate Mike Adenugas!

Having triumphantly navigated the past 20 years, Globacom will continue to luxuriate and grow like foliage by God’s grace and the Midas touch of our pace-making Chairman. It is only a question of time before Globacom becomes the biggest and best telecoms network in Africa. And so shall it be!

Happy 20th Anniversary!
