Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo, has asked parents in the state to give birth to children they can afford to train considering their financial status, or better still adopt birth control measure that safe and conducive for them.

The Governor dropped the suggestion at an event to mark his second year in office as the Governor of Anambra State, on Sunday, in Awka, which was aired live by some national television.

He, however, stated that the advice on the women became necessary following some indications that pregnant women from neighbouring states are taking advantage of free maternal care in public health care facilities in the state.

The Governor also said the free maternal care also included Cesarian Session (CS) for women with complication that is threat to their life and unborn baby.

He said that before the free ante-natal care was announced by the state government, the number of women that attend ante-natal and give birth in the public health care facilities was insignificant, but since the free services was announced, the number rose to thousands.

“In fact, pregnant women from other states come to benefit from the free maternal services, but we welcome them because we are good and accommodating people. My only advice for these women is for them to produce children that they can adequately carter for.

“Nevertheless, we are accommodating people and don’t treat people base on their state, tribe, political affiliation or something else, rather we relate with people base on competence. Just few days ago, we appointed five Permanent Secretaries for the state civil service, two of them are not Anambra indigene. One is from Osun State and the other one is from Abia State. Similarly, I have some close aides who are also not from Anambra. That’s who we are.”

He used the opportunity to highlight several other achievements he has recorded in the past two years that he has ran the affairs of the state, starting with human capital development, economy, security, infrastructures, and also the challenges he had encountered over the years.

He assured the residents of the state of improved infrastructure and standard of living, stressing that the state government is doing several things to provide better life for the current and coming generations of Ndi Anambra.

The Governor solicited the support of the people of the state to several things lined up for the good of the state.
