The delegate of the German Industry and Commerce in Nigeria, Katherina Felgenhauer, has emphasized on environmental tech innovation to tackle the scourge of climate. She described environmental tech as the pathway to a more sustainable future for West Africa Entrepreneurs, especially those in the circular economy.
Felgenhauer stressed the need to secure the assets and interests of local and foreign investors in turning waste to wealth at the 3-day event of West Africa Clean Energy and Environment, (WACEE), Trade Fair and Conference, held in Lagos.

“More than ever before, it has become a necessity for us, especially as Nigerians, to begin to take our environment seriously and care for it. Globally, disaster is as a result of waste and pollution deposited in the air and water around us.We cannot continue living like all is well, when the very environment we live in is degenerating before our very eyes”, she said.

She further stated the need to stop the pollution immediately, saying as humans, we have to make use of innovative tech to effect the necessary change our environment needs before the damage becomes irreversible.

Felgenhauer noted that, WACEE fair took place for the first time in Lagos- Nigeria, with a physical presence after 10 years it started in Ghana.
“In 2020, Nigeria hosted it but it was a virtual event. WACEE brought together the right partners to catalyze sustainable investments, meaning that discussions about suitable technologies, business opportunities, and finance, are taking place so that we can look at solutions and innovations that are practical, and make sense. We are here for solutions that are long term working with private sectors. However, Austrian companies enjoy an excellent reputation worldwide. Both, companies and research organizations, boast a high level of specialized expertise in waste management, innovative energy solutions and resource efficiency. Environmental technology made in Austria is truly surprisingly ingenious”.

The Austrian Federal Economic Chamber and the Austrian Trade Commission in Lagos, presented a selection of well-known companies at their group exhibition during WACEE 2022. Exhibits cover a wide spectrum of products ranging from machines and systems for mechanical and biological treatment of solid waste, wastewater treatment as well as environmentally friendly gas generators, and environmental consulting solutions.
