The police have arraigned the ex- husband of the daughter of Kano State, Inuwa Bala, before a Kano magistrate court over issues bordering on his alleged misconduct during his marriage to Asiya Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
This is coming barely a few weeks after a Kano upper sharia court dissolved the 16-year union following the prayers of the governor’s daughter that she was no longer interested in the marriage that produced four children.
The sharia court, in its judgment, had accorded the right to end the marriage on the grounds that she would return her dowry.
Sunday Sun gathered that Inuwa, a businessman from Yobe State, was arraigned on a five-count charge bordering on criminal force, assault, trespass, causing hurt, mischief and inciting disturbance contrary to the administration of Criminal Justice system of the state.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to him before the Chief Magistrate Court, while his defence counsel, Hashim Mai-Ulu, proceeded to seek his bail based on Section 168, 172, 175 ACJL 2021.
In his ruling, the presiding magistrate, Ishaq Abdu Aboki, granted bail to the defendant with a bond of N50,000, with two sureties, both of whom should provide their passports and verified addresses, while adjourning the case to the 25th of May, 2023 for continuation of hearing.
