Turkish Super Lig champion, Galatasaray is set to be investigated by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance following the signing of Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen, which took place 10 days ago.

Osimhen completed a permanent €75 million transfer from Napoli to Galatasaray on July 30, 2025, after spending last season on loan with the club. He signed a four-year deal worth €15 million annually, plus bonuses.

This move set a Süper Lig record and has generated significant excitement among fans in Turkey.

According to the Turkish news outlet HaberTürk, clubs are facing an investigation following Victor Osimhen’s transfer. Galatasaray will be required to pay a record €15 million in VAT for the transfer.

Saffet Sancaklı commented, “You can’t give Victor Osimhen €75 million, my friend. Who are these sponsors, and where do they come from? We need to investigate them too. The Republic of Turkey will watch, monitor, and do what’s necessary.”

Meanwhile, Osimhen’s return to Turkey has taken an unexpected turn as he has found himself at the centre of a mosque-renaming controversy in Konya.

According to Fanatik, the Bulut Mosque in the Karatay district, completed in 2008, was mistakenly listed on Google Maps as the “Victor Osimhen Mosque.”

This unexpected name change has prompted complaints from worshippers, who insist that the original name should be restored. The mosque community has called on authorities to take action, stating: “The name Victor Osimhen is Christian. Naming it after a non-Muslim and making a mockery of it is shameful.”
