Nigeria’s U17 men’s team coach, Fubara Humphrey Onyenabor on Saturday night promised to overhaul the team before heading to Tunia for the final of the 2023 FIBA Africa U16 Championship.
Fubara, while reacting to his team’s 47-45 defeat to by Ghana, gave this assurance while noting that there is need to better the team for the task ahead.
He said that his boys were complacent in the game against Ghana and deciding to do their own thing as against coaches instructions. “It was sad that we lost the game but it has enabled me see areas that I need to work on. “Between our return from Ghana and when we travel to Tunisia, I will overhaul the team because the players we came with are not necessarily the best we have. There’s still work to be done and I can assure you that we be ready and better.”
Host Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire and Nigeria finished with 3 points apiece from 2 games but Nigeria earned the ticket to Tunisia courtesy of a superior goals difference.
Nigeria is making a return to the championship since 2019 when the country finished third place at the event held in Cape Verde.
The FIBA U16 African Championship holds in the city of Monastir, Tunisia.
However, Nigeria’s Women’s team finished tops in their category beating Team Ghana twice on home and away basis.
