Friends, associates, former student celebrate Prof Nworgu

It was an evening of joy and relaxation last weekend as students, colleagues, media practitioners, and associates gathered to show love and appreciation to one of their own, Prof K.O Nworgu.

The reception and  dinner were in honour of the Professor of Mass Communication, who was  recently elevated to full rank professor by the lmo State University, Owerri.

Earlier, the classmates of Prof Nworgu at the Mass Communication Department, University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Hon. Ken Agbim, former member of the Imo State House of Assembly and Mr Chidi Nnadi, Editor, Sunday of The Sun Newspaper, had sent their goodwill messages to Prof Nworgu, wishing him well.

The duo noted that Prof Nworgu is an erudite scholar who has many academic publications to his credit.

Speaking at the occasion, one of the organisers, Dr Yarmuno Psaro, narrated his over 30 years long standing relationship with the celebrant, who had supervised him at the various times, cumulating to his award of a PhD in Mass Communication in 2022 by the Imo State University.

He described Prof Nworgu as a hard-working, dedicated, and thorough academic, whose “red pen” was legendary in correcting students’ projects.

Other speakers on the occasion commended the commitment of the university teacher towards academic excellence  and qualitative education.

They noted that the don had contributed so much to communication and journalism education within the country and beyond as they wined and dined in an atmosphere of conviviality.

Prof Nworgu, who was recently promoted to the rank of a professor of Mass Communication with specialisation in Public Relations, Advertising and Media Studies (PAMs), has over 23 years teaching experience and had lectured in over five universities in Nigeria, as an adjunct, visiting  or part-time lecturer.

He has published over 12 books and 45 journal articles in both international and local  journals. His book on the Press and Nigeria’s Foreign Policy  is published by Lambert-lap publishers and sold on Amazon. Currently, he is the HOD of the newly established Advertising Department in the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies.

Also, he is on a one-year sabbatical leave in the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
