Four United States service members have been killed in a US military refuelling aircraft crash in Western Iraq.

The US Central Command confirmed the development in an X post on Friday.

It said the US KC-135 refueling aircraft went down in Western Iraq at approximately 2pm Eastern Time on March 12.

“Four of six crew members on board the aircraft have been confirmed deceased as rescue efforts continue,” the X post reads in part.

The command said the circumstances of the incident are under investigation, but noted that the loss of the aircraft was not due to hostile fire or friendly fire.

“The identities of the service members are being withheld until 24 hours after next of kin have been notified,” the command added.

The US and Israel laucnhed a joint military offensive on Iran on February 28.

Iran has said “the only way” to end the war is recognising Iran’s legitimate rights, payment of reparations, and firm international guarantees against future aggression.
