Dinah Lugard, hailing from Bayelsa State, is the founder of The Cure Initiative. When asked about the inspiration behind starting the initiative and its main objectives, Dinah shared, “I was deeply moved by the stigmatization faced by individuals struggling with addiction, unaware of the tremendous efforts they make to overcome it. The Cure Initiative aims to support these individuals and help them on their journey to recovery.”
Given the specific social issues and challenges prevalent in Nigeria, such as the alarming rate of drug abuse among young adults, The Cure Initiative is focused on combating drug abuse and making a difference.
The Cure Initiative has implemented several key programs and initiatives to assist individuals dealing with drug addiction and mental health-related issues. They actively engage with drug addiction victims by visiting their locations, enlightening them about the dangers of substance abuse. Additionally, they offer support and materials to those seeking rehabilitation, particularly in centers not affiliated with hospitals.
Since its establishment, The Cure Initiative has had a significant impact. They conduct outreach programs in secondary schools, targeting students transitioning to the university level. Through these programs, they educate students about the perils of drug abuse, leaving behind educational souvenirs for continuous awareness. Furthermore, after successful rehabilitation, The Cure Initiative takes steps to reconnect the individuals with their loved ones. This initiative aims to help them regain a sense of self-worth and overcome any lingering effects of their past drug experiences.
The Cure Initiative’s dedication and commitment have resulted in numerous success stories and significant milestones. Their comprehensive approach to combating drug abuse and supporting individuals on their path to recovery has garnered praise and appreciation from those they have assisted.
