From Okwe Obi, Abuja

The Unified Nigeria Youth Forum (UNYF), has expressed worry over the increasing cases of missing persons and the atrocities of ‘one chance’ criminals especially in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.

UNYF Director of Media and Publicity, Mayowa Ajibade, in a statement yesterday, said the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, should focus on tackling the menace instead of paying more attention to the politics of Rivers State.

“UNYF is deeply concerned about the reported cases of missing persons, the activities of ‘One Chance’ robbery syndicates, and the escalating incidents of kidnapping for ransom, which have become increasingly prevalent due to the complete failure of administration in the nation’s capital.

“This negative trend wouldn’t have been there if the man who is entrusted with the responsibility of heading the Federal Capital Territory had focus on his duty and not meddling in the affairs of the governance in River State.

“The primary concern of UNYF is the safety and security of all Nigerians, and we firmly believe that it is paramount to address these issues effectively and efficiently.

“We call upon Former Governor Wike, Minister of FCT to shift his focus towards ensuring the safety of the FCT and refrain from meddling in the affairs of Rivers State,” he said.

Ajibade described as baseless accusations by Wike against Rivers State governor Siminalayi Fubara in the burning of the state House of Assembly.

“We strongly condemns the baseless accusations made by former Governor Nyesom Wike regarding Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s alleged involvement in the burning of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

“No sane governor will inflict economic damage in his state despite obvious growing poverty in the country.

“We therefore wish to urge Governor Fubara to seek legal redress as Governor Wike is not covered by immunity under the law. His immunity expired on 29th May, 2023.

“We are not unaware of plans by Nyesom Wike to leverage his closeness with President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and attempt using Security Operatives to cause anarchy in Rivers State.

“We also wish to further call upon the security agencies to maintain neutrality and not succumb to any undue influence, as it has been seen in the past when he had access to former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan

“UNYF wish to commends Governor Fubara for maintaining composure and dignity despite the unwarranted provocation from former Governor Wike and his minions.

“This display of maturity in the face of adversity is commendable and reflects Governor Fubara’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and maintaining peace in the oil rich River State.

“As a united voice representing the Nigerian youth, UNYF pledges to take action if Wike continues his shenanigans and fails to cease interfering in the affairs of Rivers State. We will be left with no choice but to organize peaceful demonstrations and occupy the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) until our demands are met,” he added.
