The Ikogazebbe Youth Forum, Badagry, has appealed to the management of Lagos State University (LASU), to recall 5 sacked lecturers, between September 2017 and September 2019, by the Governing Council led by Prof Lanre Fagbohun.
The embattled lecturers who were members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in LASU are Dr Isaac Akinloye Oyewumi, Dr Adebowale Adeyemi-Suenu, Dr Anthony Dansu, Dr Adeolu Oluwaseyi Oyekan and Dr Oluwakemi Adebisi Aboderin-Shonibare.
Assistant Secretary General of the Forum, Dr Mayowa Adejobi, in a statement, yesterday, claimed that the lecturers were sacked on the basis of what he called “frivolous charges brought against.”
He explained that in 2021, LASU administration under the Vice Chancellorship of Prof Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello demanded an out-of-court settlement.
This, he said, was followed by the reversal of the five dismissals, and reinstatement of the five officers by the new University Governing Council under the chairmanship of David Sunmoni on the 23rd of February, 2023.
But according to him, less than 24 hours after the council resolution, “Lagos State Government forced the university Governing Council to put the implementation of its decision on the union leaders on hold.”
This, he said was on the premise that the Council should wait for the release of government’s white paper on the 2021 LASU visitation panel. “It is over two years now and nothing has happened.”
According to him, “there is strong conviction that the issue of the union leaders remains unresolved due to nothing, but ego and interest(s) of some powerful individuals.
“This issue of 5 and 7 years is long overdue for final resolution. Lagos State Government, and LASU authorities should put an end to this shenanigan.
