A coalition of major markets in Kano State has threatened to shut down in the state, in the face of the rising price of dollars and other currencies at the forex market.
Speaking on Monday, after a meeting in the state, the chairman of the coalition of leaders of these markets, Junaid Muhammad Zakari lamented that the current cost of the currency has negatively affected traders and consumers in the state
He observed that the situation has led to untold hardships on Nigerians, adding that the common man can no longer afford his meals and other basic necessities.
He appealed for patience, adding that, the coalition would submit a letter to the state government and relevant stakeholders to express their displeasure over the unfortunate situation.
The Vice Chairman of the Coalition ,Balarabe Tatari, who is also the Chairman Kantin Kwari market, regretted that some unpatriotic Nigerians were in the habit of hoarding goods due to the daily rise in forex especially dollar.
“The price of items has skyrocketed in the market, many traders have lost their capital, while consumers find it difficult to patronise goods and services due to inflation,” he explained.
The chairman, Forex Traders Association Kano state, Sani Dada observed that the issue of dollar wss beyond their capacity, as their members do not have enough to sell to consumers.
