Floods: Expert raise alarm of looming food scarcity

An agriculturist cum entrepreneur, Mr. Musibaudeen Olorundare has
raised concerns about a possible food crisis in the weeks ahead, as a result of excessive rains and floods that have affected a good number of states within the federation.
Olorundare who is the managing director of Business Support Academy, raised the alarm at a seminar for Imans and Islamic clerics on farming in Lagos.
The seminar was organised by a non governmental organisation, Al-Habbiyyah Islamic Society, with the theme: ” Capacity Strengthening for Employment”.
The experts noted that states in Northern Nigeria were more prone to flooding and have been the worst hit by floods.
Giving analysis on skyrocketing cost of food, the agriculture expert, urged all Nigerians to involved in farming whether small scale or large scale.
He said the ravaging flood across the country would have long term effect which will resulted into famine.
” The issue of skyrocketing food prices started as a result of insecurity across the country, while COVID 19 made the issue worse, and now with this current issue is of floods ravaging every nooks and crannies of the country, Nigerians should brace up, there is going to be shortage of food supply which will cause increase in prices of agric product”, he said.
The Chief Imam and executive director of the society, Guard Adeyemi, in his welcome address, charged Islamic clerics to get their priority right for 2023 general elections.
He said the religious leaders should role model to their followers by doing the right things in term of moral and spiritual.
He charged the cleric not to solely depend on their congregants for survival in order to be firm in preaching against immorality, corruption and social vices.
