First Lady to Nigerians abroad: Our youth deserve opportunities, hope previous generations once enjoyed

First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, has made a heartfelt call to Nigerians living abroad, urging them to support the country’s resurgence by fostering innovation and development at home, declaring the nation’s youth deserve opportunities and hope previous generations once enjoyed.

Speaking on the sidelines of the World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) in Doha, she emphasised that today’s youth deserve a Nigeria with the opportunities and hope that previous generations once enjoyed.

Addressing a gathering of Nigerians showcasing startups and innovative projects at the summit, the First Lady said, “The Nigeria that gave us the platform to be who we are today must also give our youth the same chance to dream and succeed.” She stressed that education is the key to unlocking this potential, describing it as “the best gift we can give our children—the ability to dream on their own.”

Tinubu praised the diaspora for their achievements and urged them to become stronger agents of change. “I am grateful and proud of what you’re doing here. You are making Nigeria proud,” she noted, “but we must all do more. Engage with students and youths back home. Help change their mindset and broaden their vision for Nigeria’s future.”

Highlighting the importance of collaboration, she facilitated connections between innovators present and Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, to explore partnerships that could accelerate progress. “When startups within Nigeria and those abroad work hand in hand with government agencies, we can achieve much more for our nation,” she added.

According to a statement by her media aide, Busola Kukoyi, In addition to her interaction with Nigerian entrepreneurs, the First Lady also received members of the Committee of Pro Chancellors of Federal Universities of Nigeria, who were attending the Education Beyond Borders Conference, reinforcing her commitment to harnessing education as a crucial driver for Nigeria’s renewed growth.
