The First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has announced a disbursement of N1.9 billion as part of the Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS).
The initiative, now in its second edition, aims to provide financial assistance and health support to senior citizens across the nation, according to a statement by her media aid, Busola Kukoyi.
During the event, which took place simultaneously in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Tinubu revealed that each of the 250 beneficiaries per state, including military veterans, would receive N200,000.
She appealed to Nigeria’s senior citizens, to prioritise their health and cherish time with loved ones during the festive season. Speaking at the second edition of the RHIESS, she announced a significant increase in financial support for 250 beneficiaries across each state, including veterans.
Each beneficiary, she said, would receive N200,000 with additional provisions for free medical check-ups and food items.
According to the First Lady, the programme is aimed at reassuring the elderly that they are loved and not forgotten, especially during the festive season.
She reiterated the commitment of President Bola Tinubu to the wellbeing of all Nigerians.
“This event is holding simultaneously in all the states of the federation.
This programme is designed to support the welfare of our elderly citizens annually. Two Hundred and Fifty elderly citizens, aged 65 and above in all the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, as well as veterans from the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA), will be benefiting from this scheme.”
Earlier, the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, urged Nigerians to support President Tinubu, who he said, met a lot of rot on ground when he assumed office. He assured that things are already getting better in the country as light is evident at the end of the tunnel.
He also announced that in addition to the 250 elderly being supported by the RHI, the Ministry would support an additional 250 veterans with N200,000 each.
