As Nigeria marks an important milestone, 70 years since women first joined the nation’s police force, First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has publicly praised the Nigerian Police Force for its steadfast commitment to justice and equality, highlighting the institution’s progress in mainstreaming gender as a key strategic priority.
Speaking at the landmark celebration held in Abuja to honour “70 Years of Courage and Service: Honouring Women in Policing, Inspiring the Future,” she acknowledged the historic and on-going contributions of female police officers who have played vital roles in law enforcement, peacekeeping, and community safety both within Nigeria and internationally.
“This event is not only a celebration of shared global values but also a tribute to the women who have stood courageously on the frontlines of peace and security,” Tinubu stated.
According to a statement issued by her media aide, Busola Kukoyi, the First Lady commended the Nigerian police under the leadership of Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun for aligning with global best practices in embracing gender mainstreaming as a strategic institutional priority.
