A new chapter in Nigeria’s revenue administration officially begins today, January 1, 2026, as the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) takes over from the now-retired Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), unveiling its institutional brand identity.

The NRS came into operation following the signing of the Nigeria Revenue Service Establishment Act 2025 by President Bola Tinubu in June 2025, marking a major reform in the country’s tax administration framework.

Speaking at the logo unveiling ceremony in Abuja on Wednesday, NRS Executive Chairman Zacch Adedeji described the new visual identity as a key milestone in the evolution of revenue administration in Nigeria. According to a statement issued by his Special Adviser (Media), Dare Adekanmbi, Adedeji said the new logo and brand elements “reflect a renewed commitment to a more unified, efficient, and service-oriented revenue system, one that is aligned with Nigeria’s economic transformation agenda and global best practices.”

He added that the NRS identity “signals continuity of purpose, strengthened institutional capacity, and a forward-looking approach to supporting taxpayers and national development.”

The Executive Chairman emphasised that the rebranding is more than a cosmetic change. “The Nigeria Revenue Service remains committed to transparency, partnership, and service excellence. The unveiling of this new identity represents not an end, but the beginning of a strengthened relationship between the revenue authority and the Nigerian public—built on trust, clarity, and shared prosperity,” the statement said.

With the transition from FIRS to NRS, the government aims to modernise tax administration, improve compliance, and foster a more taxpayer-friendly environment, signalling a fresh approach to mobilising revenue for national development.
