The Chief Registrar of the Cross River State Judiciary, Iquo Ekanem, has described the fire incident at the State High Court, Ogoja, as a pathetic situation.
The Chief Registrar disclosed this in Calabar while formally reacting to the fire incident at the State High Court, Ogoja, in Northern Cross River State.
The incident, which occurred last Sunday morning, caused extensive damage to the court complex, about 200 km from Calabar, the state capital.
Speaking with our correspondent in Calabar, she said the buildings, furniture, and documents in the old archives were destroyed.
“The fire incident was quite a loss as buildings and furniture were burnt, and it’s a very pathetic situation as it stands.

“Some documents in the old archives were completely destroyed, and only current files were rescued,” she said.
She added that the court has been moved to Magistrate Court 2 in Ogoja, and the judge will share the court with the magistrates until further notice since there is only one High Court in Ogoja.
She said there are no plans to immediately renovate the facility as the judiciary has no capital votes to do so.
She also disclosed that a comprehensive report on the incident is underway and will be sent to the state governor.
Also speaking, the State Police Commissioner, Gyogon Grimah, said the command is aware of the incident and an investigation is underway.
