A residential building and mini-church were on Thursday gutted by fire in the Abule Egba area of Lagos State.
The fire incident which occurred at No. 15, Pipeline Road, off Ekoro Road, Abule Egba, was said to have started in an open space used for local recycling activities, operated by some individuals of northern extraction.
Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service disclosed that no death was recorded but an unidentified woman suffered shock and was stabilised by emergency responders.
It added that the fire spread to and affected a nearby residential bungalow and mini-church.
Controller-General of the service, Margaret Adeseye said, “The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service received a distress call at approximately 13:08 hours regarding a fire outbreak at No. 15, Pipeline Road, off Ekoro Road, Abule Egba.
“Upon receipt of the call, firefighting crews from the Agege and Abesan Fire Stations were immediately mobilised and deployed to the scene.
“Preliminary findings indicate that the fire occurred in an open space used for local recycling activities, operated by some individuals of northern extraction.
“The incident unfortunately spread to and affected a nearby residential bungalow and a mini church within the vicinity.
“One adult female suffered a shock at the scene and has since been stabilised by emergency responders. No fatalities were recorded.”
The service said the fire has been successfully brought under control, while investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the incident.
Urging residents to adhere strictly to fire safety regulations, the service reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property in the state.
