A fire outbreak has destroyed a total of 529 temporary stalls at Shuwaki Market in Gari Local Government Area of Kano State.

The Public Relations Officer, Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi confirmed the incident in Kano.

According to him, the Service received a distress call from Abdulmalik Muhammad of Gari Fire Station, reporting a fire outbreak in the market.

He noted that following the information, they promptly dispatched personnel and fire-fighting vehicles to the scene to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading to other parts of the market.

The Public Relations Officer pointed out that the market area, which measures about 3,000 by 2,500 feet and contains around 1,000 temporary stalls, suffered extensive damage, with 529 stalls completely razed.

He,  however, confirmed that no lives was lost as a result of the incident.

He attributed the fire to the activities of some drunk individuals residing within the market premises.

He urged residents and traders to exercise caution when handling fire and inflammable materials to prevent losses of lives and property.
