The Crime Awareness & Prevention Initiative (ECAPI), in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force Intelligence Department (FID), ended its 3-day trading last weekend while declaring readiness to work towards taming raging insecurity, which has recently threatened the peace of the nation.
The disclosure was made at the closing ceremony of the training program organised by both bodies to tackle the high level of crime rate, which has destabilised several societies in the country.
Speaking at the occasion which ended on Saturday, 22nd of November at Ikeja Local Government, Lagos, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Benjamin N. Okolo, who was well represented by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Jaiyeoba Idowu Joseph, stated the exercise came up at the right time while giving kudos to both bodies who derived pleasure staging the initiative.
Having been awarded alongside other dignitaries who have added positively to crime eradication in the community, Joseph charged all to step up in their aim to fight insecurity and promote public safety.
“I’m happy seeing both parties come up together to fight a common goal. This exercise came up at the right time when we, security agencies, were being called upon for safety following the raging insecurity which has halted several activities in the country.
“Let me make this known to you: Intelligence is one of the pillars of security, and I’m glad we’re determined to make this unit stronger. I can also also you the commissioner of Police has continued to marshal directives about this unfortunate incident. Presently, our challenge is for the intelligence department to step up, and once this is done, I believe we’ll put an end to the high level of insecurity in the country. We still need more of this exercise, and I’m using this medium to applaud the organisers for staging an event of this magnitude,” he stated.
Earlier, the CSP, State Intelligence Department, Lagos State Command, Aminu Abdulsalam, who spoke on “Logical reasoning in intelligence”, identified key logical skills for intelligence gathering as deductive, inductive, abductive, dialogical reasoning, among others, adding that, “Such skills are the backbone of credible and actionable intelligence.”
According to Abdulsalam, “Logical reasoning is crucial in intelligence gathering as it enables analysts to evaluate information objectively and identify patterns, it builds sound conclusions, separates facts from assumptions and reduces the risk of errors and misrepresentation. By applying logical reasoning, intelligence analysts can provide actionable insights to support informed decision-making,” he added.
Commending the NPF, the Founder and President of ECAPI, Ambassador Samuel Eniola Adam, extolled IGP Egbetokun’s vision for a safer Nigeria.
Adam said the IGP’s initiative in collaboration with the police has enhanced intelligence gathering, boost expertise and improved community relationships.
Speaking on the need for the training, he said it aims to leverage the expertise of the Force Intelligence Department to train Special Private Detectives as investigators.
“These detectives will gather high-quality intelligence to support the police and other law enforcement agencies in combating crime and insecurity in the country,” Adam said.
“It is cheaper and more effective to prevent crime than to fight it. Community members are best positioned to identify criminal elements living among them. Our job at ECAPI is to sensitise the public and relay critical information to law enforcement for appropriate action.”
He added that: “At the end of the training, we expect our detectives to provide valuable insights and intelligent information to support law enforcement agencies to drive policing strategies.”
Adam however, called for a stronger collaboration between communities and security agencies, stressing that national safety requires active public involvement and the responsibility of all.
