The Old Students Association of the Federal Government College Ikom has just concluded its 5th Annual General Meeting (AGM) where a new set of executives were elected to pilot the affairs of the association for the next five years.

Old students of the institution from far and wide attended the three-day event, which was hosted at the Grand Cubana Hotels in Abuja, from September 30th to October 2nd, 2022. With the theme “Onward Together,” it was unquestionably a special occasion that the attendees will cherish for a very long time.

On the first day of the event, September 30, there was a pre-annual general meeting get-together session and an after-party. Similarly, several year sets and chapters were ably represented at the Annual General Meeting, which was hosted in a welcoming environment and with cheer. Also, new executives were chosen on Saturday, October 1st, with Mr. David Udoh becoming the association’s new national president.

Speaking earlier on the sidelines of the event, the National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Aniebet Ackley noted that the 5th AGM gave alumni of the institution a chance to get together and discuss issues that affect the association, the welfare of their members, and develop a plan for giving back to their alma mater.

“At this AGM, we will be having the election of new Exco members. Those that have been there in the previous administration have been there for the past 8years and we will be conducting this election to usher in a new set of executives. In addition, we will be adopting a project as the Alumni project for this administration that will be executed for commissioning in 2024 when we’ll be having our 35th Anniversary,” Dr. Ackley explained.

In his address, the out-going National President of the Association, Mr. Christian Johnson, praised the group’s leaders and members, adding that the association had promoted unity and given its members a venue for socializing and networking. He also highlighted some of the accomplishments made by the Association while he served as National President.

He said, “The Association under my watch has been able to build structures in terms of setting up Sets and Chapters in different states as well as register the Association with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). We have also been able to carry out four projects in our school and we’ve built excellent relationship with our alma mater.”

In order to accomplish even bigger feats, Johnson advised the incoming administration to build on the framework previously put in place by the outgoing Exco.

David Udoh, the Association’s newly elected president, thanked the membership in his victory address for choosing him to lead the organization’s operations. He promised to collaborate closely with members of the association in order to build on the accomplishments of the prior administration.

“For me, the plan is to build on the achievements of the previous administration, but more importantly we will create projects and ventures that will make the Association more financially stable. We have some big ideas including empowerment of the people through skills acquisition programmes and the incorporation of a Cooperative which, in the long run, transit into a Micro Finance Bank,” Udoh stated.

The school’s principal, Mrs. T.C. Atoe, expressed her extreme happiness with the accomplishments of the Alumni Association. She praised the members in her goodwill message for supporting the college and for their numerous efforts to advance it.

She said, “I appreciate the alumni for always having their alma mater at heart and thinking of what to give back to the college. The impact of your efforts will ripple across generations of the college’s future students. It will plant seeds of change in the college, our neighbourhood, across Nigeria and in communities around the world, in ways we can’t even yet imagine.”

Other BOT members and special guests at the event included Mr. Aloy Atsenokhai (Keynote Speaker), Mr. Peter Bisong (AGM-LOC Chairman), Arch. Kenneth Edagha (Abuja Chairman), Mr. Charles Eguma (Secretary General), Barr. Cecilia Ugbuji (National Committee Chairman).
