The Federal Government has warned Nigerians against travelling abroad without valid passport, visas and other required immigration documents, saying such actions violate the law and could expose citizens to serious dangers.

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), in a public notice released on Monday through its spokesperson, DCI AS Akinlabi, cautioned that irregular migration continues to place many Nigerians at risk of exploitation, trafficking and forced labour.

The agency stressed that all international travel must pass through approved immigration procedures and recognised border points, warning that bypassing official channels remains unlawful.

According to the NIS, criminal groups are increasingly deceiving Nigerians, especially young people, with fake promises of employment, education and better opportunities abroad.

The service noted that many victims of such schemes eventually become trapped in exploitative situations after leaving the country through illegal arrangements.

“These schemes often result in forced labour, human trafficking, and other forms of exploitation,” the statement said.

It advised Nigerians to confirm all travel and recruitment opportunities through official channels and avoid unregistered agents or individuals encouraging irregular migration.

The Immigration Service also called on the public to report suspicious activities linked to illegal migration to security agencies and nearby immigration offices.
