Following the revocation of housing land at Dukpa, Gwagwalada, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) by the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, the Federal Government has begun a fresh verification of genuine land allottees with a view to relocating them to a new site.

The exercise, which will commence on September 7, 2026, will last for three weeks.

In a statement, the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Badamasi Haiba, warned affected members of the public to take maximum advantage of the window to regularise their status ahead of the relocation, as no further extension will be granted.

Haiba said the exercise will hold strictly on working days, and affected allottees are required to present relevant documents and proof of allocation, including the original and photocopies of their Letter of Allocation, payment receipt(s), valid identification, a sworn affidavit supporting their claim of ownership, and passport photographs.

“The exercise will run strictly on working days within the stated period, and that any plot or allottee not verified within the timeframe will not be included in the relocation to the alternative site,” he warned.

Recall that the residential and service plots in the scheme were originally allocated in 1992 by the then Federal Ministry of Works and Housing for private development; however, supervening circumstances necessitated the revocation of all allocations and interests in the area by the Federal Government for the overriding public purpose of the National Housing Programme (NHP).

“In line with Section 28(2B) of the Land Use Act, Cap 202, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (as amended), the ministry has concluded arrangements to relocate all genuine allottees to an alternative site secured within Gwagwalada, and has scheduled a final verification to authenticate claims ahead of the relocation,” the statement noted.

According to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, the exercise, which will last for three weeks, will commence on September 7, 2026, at the office of the Presidential Technical Committee on Land Reform (PTCLR), Garki 2, and the Department of Lands and Housing Development at the ministry’s headquarters in Mabushi, Abuja.
