Residents of Illushi, Esan South East Local Government, Edo State, have cried out for help to relocate to safer place following the overflowing River Niger bank.
They said over three-quarter of the community has been submerged into the River Niger, adding that they listened to forecast that this year’s flood would be severe.
Traditional ruler of the community, Christopher Ike Ikebodi, who spoke in an interview, called on both the federal and state governments to provide a safe place for residents to relocate when flood water rises.

“We cannot help ourselves. We rely on government as we were told flood will overtake everywhere.
“We are pleading for help. Illusion has almost been taken away. Three quarter of the community has been washed away. We are begging government to help us. When the River Niger overflows its bank, we will be in trouble”, the traditional ruler said.
The Edo State was listed as one of 11 states to experience flooding this year with early warnings to residents in flood-prone areas to relocate.
