The Federal Government has launched a 241-plot housing scheme on 33.8 hectares of land in Osogbo, Osun State, as part of efforts to expand housing delivery through partnerships with the private sector.
The Federal Housing Authority (FHA), which is undertaking the project in partnership with Summit Group Ltd, also disclosed that 300 housing units in Bwari, Abuja, had been completed and were ready for commissioning.
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of FHA, Oyetunde Ojo, said the Osogbo development would be a mixed-use estate comprising residential and commercial areas, recreational facilities and other essential infrastructure.
Represented by the Executive Director, Estate Services, Nya-Etok Ezekiel, Ojo said the project was part of the agency’s response to Nigeria’s housing deficit and its increasing reliance on public-private partnerships to accelerate delivery.
“By combining living, working and leisure environments, we aim to foster vibrant, safe and self-sustaining communities,” he said.
Ojo said government alone could not bridge the country’s housing deficit, making private-sector participation critical to expanding supply.
“Our collaboration with Summit Group Ltd exemplifies the shared-risk, shared-value approach that produces faster delivery, higher-quality outcomes and greater value for both citizens and investors,” he said.
The FHA boss said the agency had consequently reworked its strategy to prioritise faster project delivery, better utilisation of available land, sustainable designs and wider access to housing.
According to him, the approach was in line with President Bola Tinubu’s directive that the authority should be bold, accountable and results-driven in tackling the country’s housing challenges.
“In response, the FHA has reoriented its strategies to prioritise accelerated project delivery, enhanced land utilisation, sustainable design principles and inclusivity to ensure housing opportunities are accessible to all Nigerians,” Ojo said.
He cited similar housing initiatives across the country, including a partnership project launched in Ogun State on May 13 and the Renewed Hope Estate in Umuahia, Abia State, on April 11, as well as projects in Akwa Ibom and Kaduna states.
Ojo assured residents of Osogbo and other parts of Osun that the new estate would be developed in a manner that responds to local needs, generates employment and stimulates economic activities.
He said the FHA would work with state and local authorities, community leaders and private-sector partners to ensure that the development delivered sustainable benefits.
Giving details of the project, FHA General Manager, Public-Private Partnership and Zonal Coordinator, Peter Okpanachi, said the 33.8-hectare development would comprise 241 plots.
He said the estate would also accommodate commercial and institutional zones, a clinic, police station, religious facilities and a central sewage system.
Executive Director, Projects Implementation, Remi Omowaye, assured that the development would meet stipulated standards, expressing confidence that it would emerge as one of the leading residential developments in Osogbo.
