Fed Poly Nekede makes headway in clearing student NYSC backlog

The Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri in Imo State has made a significant stride in resolving a long-standing issue affecting thousands of its students, with the rector, Dr. Basilia Igbokwe, announcing the clearance of 80% of a backlog of 50,000 students for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) participation.

Speaking at the institution’s 48th Matriculation ceremony, Dr. Igbokwe expressed confidence that the development would boost students’ assurance of a smooth service year post-graduation. “Under our leadership, over 80% of the 50,000 backlog of students have been successfully cleared for NYSC,” she stated.

The rector while highlighting achievements of the institution since she assumed office also disclosed that the school has launched its Parents Management Forum (PMF) on Friday, March 6, 2026, at the institution’s 1000-capacity auditorium.

While inaugurating the forum she emphasized the crucial role parents and guardians play in advancing the polytechnic’s vision and mission.

The PMF she explained aims to foster collaboration between the institution and parents, enhancing student development and academic excellence.

The establishment of the forum received approval from the Governing Council, marking a strategic move to strengthen institutional governance and stakeholder engagement.

Highlights of the ceremony was award of scholarship to female students in male dominated courses and as well same extended to make its male students in female dominated courses happy .
