FCT steering committee commences screening of sports association board aspirants

The screening of prospective board members for the 2026 Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Sports Associations elections has commenced in Abuja, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The exercise, conducted by the FCT Steering Committee, began on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at the Conference Hall of the FCT Sports Department and is expected to last five days.

On the opening day, candidates from eight  sports associations appeared before the committee for screening. The sports included athletics, basketball, table tennis, badminton, golf, boxing, gymnastics, and handball.

The exercise continued on Friday with candidates from judo, karate, and scrabble undergoing the screening process.

Screening is scheduled to resume on Monday with representatives from archery, cricket, taekwondo, traditional sports, kickboxing, tennis, hockey, and darts expected to appear before the committee.

On Tuesday, candidates representing rugby, wrestling, baseball, parasports, and volleyball will conclude the exercise.

The screening committee is chaired by Mr. Godwin Bamigboye, with Mr. Agbor Clinton serving as secretary. Other members of the committee include Dr. Charles Agadu, Mr. Iyiola Ogundele, Dr. Mrs. Whoba Esther, Hon. Albert Atiwurcha, Niyi Busari, Uche Nwudoh, Adakole Jones, and Dave Jegede.

During the screening sessions, committee members assess each candidate and award scores based on their performance and qualifications.

Successful candidates are expected to be inaugurated as board members of their respective sports associations after the elections, the date for which is yet to be announced.
