Gunmen on at the weekend opened fire and abducted a resident of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abdullahi Sabo, as he was driving home with his wife.
This is as the Police Force headquarters yesterday paraded some arrested bandits suspected to be responsible for the kidnapping and other criminal activities in Bwari Area Council in the FCT and its environs.
According to eyewitnesses the kidnappers intercepted Sabo’s vehicle at Sabon-Lugbe, Airport road, in the nation’s capital.
They disclosed that the victim was driving in his ash colour Lexus Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) with registration number, ABC 769 TP, when the unfortunate incident occurred.
It was gathered that he had left the metropolis and was heading for home when the criminals inside an unmarked golf car opened fire and deflated the tyres of his SUV.
This incident happened barely 48 hours after gunmen invaded an Army Estate in Kurudu, Abuja and abducted some residents.
One of the victim’s neighbours, Daramola Joseph, who confirmed Sabo’s abduction said: “They shot the tyres, forcing the vehicle to stop, but before they could get close to the jeep, the man’s wife had escaped. However, they went away with the husband.
“The man with his wife were returning from the city centre and heading towards the access road to Jedo Estate when the gunmen struck.”
Federal Capital Territory (FCT) PPRO, SP Josephine Adeh, as at the time of filing this report did not pick calls placed to her nor replied to messages sent to her.
However, at town hall meetings held in Bwari and Gwagwalada area councils, Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, assured the residents of their safety, saying that adequate security measures had been put in place.
He also announced the arrest of some bandits and their informants.
The suspects paraded by the Police Force headquarters: Idris Isiaku and Dahiru Salihu, were arrested by men of the IGP Intelligence Response Team (IRT) after the launching of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to wipe out terrorists from the FCT.
The suspects, who said they have been in Bwari and working as farmers and security guards, said that they used the opportunity as security guards to monitor activities of residents, especially the rich and then report back to their colleagues in the bush before carrying out the kidnapping operation.
The suspects also revealed that they get paid for their services after the operations.
Parading the suspects, the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumiyiwa Adejobi, advised members of the public, especially landlords and caretakers to be weary of who they employ as security guard.
