DATAPRO to discuss African economic future, structural reforms for long term capital

DataPro Limited, Policymakers, regulators, and financial experts, topped it’s plans for the sixth International Credit Rating Webinar with Stakeholders from Africa and Europe to come virtually October 8, 2026

The theme of this year’s event is “Sovereign Credit Rating: Africa’s Roadmap to Investment Grade Status.” Participants are expected from government, development finance institutions, the corporate sector, and the research community.

As the conversation around Africa’s economic future intensifies, the structural reforms and policies required to attract long-term institutional capital have never been more critical.

On October 8th, DataPro will host the 6th International Rating Webinar, bringing together a diverse brain trust of global academics, policy strategists, and financial leaders to explore our central theme: Sovereign Credit Rating: Africa’s Roadmap to Investment Grade Status.

Dr. Misheck Mutize, Lead Expert, Credit Rating Agencies, African Peer Review Mechanism, said the Webinar will be another deep dive into the structural reforms, debt sustainability strategies, and economic policies needed to elevate African nations in global capital markets.

He stated that the organisations have gathered a lineup of renowned global experts and industry leaders to guide the conversation, among whom is Dr. Mutize, who is an instrumental figure in shaping the African agenda on domestic markets and global capital positioning. As a leading voice at the African Union organ APRM, he is spearheading the establishment of the Africa Credit Rating Agency (AfCRA). His extensive policy expertise covers debt sustainability, sovereign risk, and global financial reform.

Another personality is the Executive Director, Risk Management, Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI), Mrs. Oluwakemi Babalogbon, a seasoned investment and risk-management executive with over 20 years of experience spanning corporate finance, asset management, and public finance. As an Executive Director at the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI), she oversees the strategic management and value optimisation of Nigeria’s state-owned assets. Her extensive board and risk governance experience brings a vital practical perspective on sovereign credibility, institutional governance, and attracting long-term capital.

Also, the Founder, Credit Rating Research Initiative, Dr. Daniel Cash, an Associate Professor at Aston University and a Senior Fellow at the UN University’s Centre for Policy Research, is a leading academic voice on the credit rating industry. A former Fulbright Scholar, he brings unparalleled depth to the discussion as the author of nine books dedicated entirely to the credit rating sector.

Included among the experts is Prof.  Torsten Schmidt, Head, Macroeconomics & Public Finance Research, RWI – Essen Leading the “Growth, Business Cycles, and Public Finance” division at RWI since 2020. Prof. Schmidt is an expert in empirical macroeconomics. His rigorous analysis of international business cycles, macroeconomic trends, and financial development will provide critical context for sovereign economic evaluations.

Prof. Kai Gehring, a professor of Political Economy, University of Bern, brings a wealth of knowledge on political economy, sustainable development, and public economics. With research experience spanning Harvard, Cambridge, and Stanford, his work deeply explores the political economy of international organisations like the IMF and World Bank, as well as the effectiveness and allocation of development finance.
