Fayose alleges plot by Fayemi to implicate him, PDP

Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has raised alarm over an alleged murder plot by the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the state, Kayode Fayemi, to implicate him and some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The governor alleged that a meeting was held in Isan-Ekiti, Fayemi’s hometown, where a certain thug (name withheld) was allegedly assigned with the task of carrying out the plot of killing people and dumping their corpses in Fajuyi Park and also in houses belonging to the PDP leaders in question.

Fayose raised the alarm in a press statement released to reporters in Ado Ekiti by his Special Assistant on Communication and New Media, Lere Olayinka.

A video clip of the governor’s address where he made the allegation was also circulated on social media.

It would be recalled that at the APC secretariat on Friday, a chieftain of the APC, Hon. Opeyemi Bamidele, and others, were hit by gunshots fired by a policeman, the officer having supposedly been brought in from Lagos by a politician who was at the rally.

The governor’s statement reads:

“This alarm has become necessary because of a meeting that was held yesterday, in Isan-Ekiti, the hometown of Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the flag bearer of the APC in the July 14, 2018 governorship election.

“They have hired one popular thug to kill one or two indigenes of Ekiti and dump their bodies in the houses of PDP leaders, Fajuyi Park, in Ado Ekiti or near the government house. This is an attempt to link me and my party with killings.

“This new plot is as a result of the failure of the plot to link me with the shooting of Hon. Michael Opeyemi Bamidele (MOB) and others by a policeman at the APC secretariat on Friday.

“We take exception to this sinister plot as we will not be a party to a violent act. Ekiti has been peaceful in the last three and half years, we want to keep enjoying this peace and will not want it disrupted because of politics. Our ambition is not worthy of the blood of any Ekiti indigene.

“We, therefore, call on the police and other security agencies to be vigilant and Ekiti people to please be watchful. Your life and my life will not be used as sacrifice for this election.

“I want to plead with everyone to please take note that violence is not an option. I also urge the federal government to take necessary steps to save Ekiti from further crisis.”

Media aide to the John Kayode Fayemi (JKF) campaign organisation, Wole Olujobi, has responded to the statement and allegations.

Olujobi in his response claims that it is Governor Fayose himself that is behind the alleged murder plot.

In a statement to newsmen in Ado Ekiti on Sunday, Olujobi said:

“We have noted Fayose’s false alarm. This is not the first time Fayose is raising false alarm like this. When Fayose raises this kind of alarm, you can be sure that death is lurking in the corner to take off his enemy by his own thugs and blame the murder on the opposition.

“This is exactly the same way his media men raised the alarm on August 12, 2006 that security report had indicated that the opposition was planning the murder of a prominent politician and blame the murder on him in order to destabilise his administration.

“Two days after Fayose raised his alarm through his media men in a manner similar to the latest one, a renowned politician (names withheld) was assassinated on August 14, 2006 at his Ijan-Ekiti home town.

“All efforts by the current administration of Fayose to manipulate the trial of suspects in secret trials to free them have been frustrated so far by the media. I won’t be surprised if Fayose travels out today and the alleged murder plot he is talking about is carried out tomorrow. That is his style to plead alibi.

“The Supreme Court had ruled that he has a case to answer in the said politician’s murder. Incidentally, this same Lere Olayinka that Fayose is using today in the media was one of those who wrote in the media explaining how Fayose allegedly ran his killer squad with no fewer than 22 Ekiti people allegedly losing their lives because one man wanted to make money with the blood of innocent Ekiti people.
We want security agencies to note that Fayose is up to a sinister motive. He doesn’t raise this kind of alarm in vain; a prominent Ekiti indigene is about to lose his life in a government-supervised conspiracy only to blame the murder on the opposition.”
