Ekiti state Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has described the demise of All Progressives Congress (APC) Chieftain, Ambassador Gbenga Olofin, as very sad and unfortunate.

The Governor during a condolence visit to the Onigede of Igede-Ekiti, HRM Oba James Adelusi Aladesuru, described late Olofin as “a very formidable man, a man of strong will and a wonderful friend who believed in achieving whatever he set out to achieve.”

In a press statement issued in Ado Ekiti on Monday by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Idowu Adelusi, the Governor, who noted that he was in Igede, the home town of the late former ambassador, to condole with his family, Kabiyesi and the entire people of Igede, said “we are saddened, we are unhappy and we have come to encourage Kabiyesi and the people of Igede to take solace in the fact that it is God that giveth and it is God that taketh.”‎

‘He has gone. It is we that will go and join him when the time comes. So, God will grant his family, Kabiyesi, people of Igede and the entire Ekiti people the fortitude to bear this loss. It is a great loss,” the Governor stated.

On frequent road mishaps which have claimed lives in recent times, Fayose said “to us as individuals, our attitudes to life must change. Life comes and goes in seconds. We must appeal to our people to know that it is not even about dying but about the pains and sufferings that will be left for the loved ones.”

In his response, Oba Aladesuru (who appreciated the governor for his visit) noted that the deceased was very close to the palace and was a strong pillar in the town. He expressed dismay at the ambassador’s death not quite long after he retired.

Ambassador Olofin, who was the APC senatorial candidate for Ekiti Central in 2015, died in a car accident along Benin-Ore road last Thursday.
