Ekiti State governor, Kayode Fayemi has commended the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for its role in the just-concluded general elections in the country, describing the corps as a force to reckon with in Nigeria’s democratic development and governance.
The governor said the contributions of the scheme and the corps members to the success of the polls deserve commendation and reward.
Fayemi made the remarks during the official opening and swearing-in ceremony of the 2019 Batch ‘A’ corps members deployed to the state which held at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, Ise-Orun/Emure Ekiti.
Earlier in her address, the NYSC coordinator in the state, Mrs Emmanuella Okpongete, disclosed that 1,833 corps members deployed to the state were registered by cut-off as at 12 midnight, March 28, 2019.
The figure according to her comprises 1,085 males and 748 females drawn from all states of the federation.
Fayemi who was represented at the event by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, urged the corps members to make the most of the opportunity of the orientation course and eschew all forms of anti-social behaviours as they serve their fatherland.
He said: “The NYSC scheme established 46 years ago has remained a formidable instrument of national development and we are proud to be associated with its numerous successes and achievements.
