Malam Auwal, the father of the prime suspect in the killing of a Kano mother and her six children, Umar Auwal, has called for swift punishment for his son.
Assailants allegedly led by Umar Auwal snuffed life out of Fatima Abubakar, 35, and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi area of Kano metropolis last Saturday.
The victims include Maimuna (17), Aisha (16), Bashir (13), Abubakar (10), Faruk (7) and Abdussalam (one-and-a-half years old).
The incident has sparked public outrage across the nation, with President Bola Tinubu vehemently condemning the killings and ordering the police to ensure swift justice for the slain persons.
The Kano State Police Command confirmed that the suspect had confessed to the killings, as well as a recent attack in Tudun Yola, where two housewives were murdered and their home set ablaze.
In an interview with a radio station in the wake of his son’s arrest, Malam Auwal dissociated himself from his son.
He strongly condemned his son’s alleged actions, describing him as “useless to society” and urging the authorities to execute him rather than keeping him in prison.
Malam Auwal said, “What he committed against my younger sister and her six children, my wife’s younger sister and her co-wife is condemnable. I distance myself from him.”
He further claimed that Umar had killed his younger sister and plucked out her eyes a few years ago.
“I don’t even want them to waste time on prosecution. Umar and his likes are supposed to be eliminated. They are not supposed to be remanded and fed with taxpayers’ money,” he said.
Malam Auwal further disclosed that he had given up on his son, insisting that neither he nor Umar’s mother would attend his trial in court.
