Lagos-based fashion house, Asotiayé, has unveiled its forthcoming collection, Blood & Sand, drawing on African heritage, ancestry and cultural identity to create contemporary luxury fashion.
The collection combines heritage-inspired silhouettes, indigenous craftsmanship and original textile development in an exploration of ancestry, mortality, identity and continuity.
According to the fashion house, Blood & Sand represents another stage in its effort to blend contemporary design with traditional African craftsmanship while preserving elements of cultural heritage.
The collection draws inspiration from the African motherland, using intricate designs, patterns and fabrics to reconnect audiences with ancestral traditions through contemporary expressions.
Asotiayé said the symbolism behind the collection is rooted in the relationship between blood, lineage and human mortality.
“This collection represents life, lineage and the inheritance passed from one generation to the next, while sand symbolises humanity—shaped by time, marked by experience and ultimately returning to dust. Though life is temporary, its stories endure through memory and legacy,” the fashion house said.
Founder and Fashion Designer, Asotiayé, Jane R. E. Odemwingie, said indigenous artisans were involved in developing the collection, including the use of Aso Oké and specially developed textiles.
“To bring this vision to life, we collaborated with indigenous artisans and explored original textile development, including the use of Aso Oké, which enables us to celebrate traditional craftsmanship while reimagining it for a modern audience,” Odemwingie said.
She explained that the collection seeks to present fashion not merely as clothing but as a medium through which cultural history and identity can be preserved and interpreted for contemporary audiences.
“Ultimately, Blood & Sand presents fashion as both art and cultural archive, where life and death, past and present, heritage and innovation converge to tell the enduring story of human existence,” she said.
The fashion house said the collection also reflects its commitment to sustainable innovation and culturally rooted luxury, while providing a platform for indigenous craftsmanship.
Through Blood & Sand, Asotiayé seeks to encourage a rediscovery of African identity and history while demonstrating how traditional materials and techniques can find new expressions in contemporary fashion.
