The family of Kamoru Anifowose, a 47-year-old father of eight children, who was killed alongside one other person by armed men last Friday, in the Abatiwa community in Agbowa, Odogbolu Local Government Area of Ogun State, has raised the alarm over alleged release of one of the culprits by the police.
Already the Ogun State Ministry of Justice has intensified investigation to ensure that the killers face the full wrath of the law. A gang of over 50 armed men had, last Friday, reportedly invaded the community in a Toyota Hilux, five Sienna buses, and multiple motorcycles to unleash mayhem on the residents.
The deceased Anifowose, an estate agent, was shot and slaughtered with axes and machetes and his two wrists severed and taken away, while the other deceased person, simply identified as Akibu, was shot while trying to escape. Nine people, including the prime suspect, simply identified as Sesan, were arrested by the police in connection with the killings, but Sesan was released after a day in police custody.
Meanwhile, the family of the deceased persons have raised the alarm over the release of Sesan. The family called on the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, the state Attorney General, and the state Police Commissioner, Frank Mba, to ensure that justice prevails.
A witness to the incident, Yinka Baale, said: “We were in the village around 8:15pm, and about to take our dinner when the attackers came. I saw a Toyota Hilux and we thought that they were policemen. But when they came to where we were sitting, I saw Sesan. Suddenly they started shooting. People escaped, but they were able to hold on to the three of us. They began with Kamoru and started shooting at him. When they realised that the bullets were not penetrating, they began to use axes and machetes on him.”
Baale also said: “While they descended on Kamoru, Akibu made attempts to escape and he was shot in the abdomen and in the neck. I also ran into the bush. They also shot at me, but I escaped. One of the wives of the slain Kamoru, Mrs Latifat Anifowose, told journalists that “the governor and the public should not let my husband die in vain. The killers are known and they have been arrested.
“He went to work to cater for his family, but now they have killed him. I leant that one of those who killed him has been released and that he has been boasting that nobody can arrest him.”
The woman added that “eye witnesses at the scene said they saw Mukaila, Actor, Sesan, and others. These people should not kill my husband in vain. The police at Eleweran should treat this matter with the seriousness it deserves. I heard that the IPO is planning to release other killers of my husband.”
Meanwhile, CP Frank Mba said the command has begun investigations into the incident and that some people had been arrested in connection with he murder. The police boss said Sesan was released after interrogation and he could not be directly linked to the murder.
Mba added that the suspect was also released on health related issues, with an instruction to appear before the police everyday. He assured that the perpetrators of the dastardly act will be arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law.
