Family of 4 electrocuted in Taraba

At least four family members are confirmed remedy dead in a tragic fire incident in the Dinyavo area of Jalingo, the Taraba State capital.

Spokesperson for the Taraba State Police Command SP Abdullahi Usman, who confirmed the sad incident, said that the command received a distress call about the fire incident and on arriving at the scene found four members of a family on the floor with burns all over their bodies.

Usman disclosed that the bodies were confirmed dead on arrival at the FMC Jalingo.

According to Usman, “The victims are Mr Reymond Ofonbuk, Mrs Mfonobong Reymond, Heaven Reymond, and First Reymond. It was gathered that the YEDC restored power and the obviously excess voltage blew the transformer in the neighbourhood. Many houses in the neighbourhood experienced high electric voltage which led to the fire outbreak that affected several houses in the area.”

Usman however said that the command has commenced a thorough investigation to unravel what really happened.

An eyewitness who spoke to our Correspondent on the phone said “There is a fire incident from YEDC transformer in Dinyavoh. Many Houses got burnt including the new PD Pius & Associates office. Four people died instantly, while others were rushed to hospital with different levels of burnt. There is confusion and fear all over the place.”
