The Global Association of Female Attorneys (GAFA), Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), and the family members have demanded justice for Mediatrix Chigbo, a lawyer, who was killed in Abuja.

Chigbo, on January 5, 2026, was abducted and murdered in Abuja.

GAFA International President, Chinelo Virginia Iriele, during the night of tribute in Abuja, questioned the role of the government, which is chiefly to protect lives and property.

According to her, this does not appear to be the prevailing reality in Nigeria, where citizens are repeatedly subjected to selected violent crimes often without the perpetrators being identified or held accountable.

Iriele charged security personnel to fish out her killers and others who have been killed by criminals in the FCT and beyond.

She pointed out that all lives must be treated equally regardless of social status or political affiliations.

“As we mourn our dear colleague, the Global Association of Female Attorneys (GAFA)-a duly registered, non-profit, non-religious, non-governmental, and non-political organisation of female legal practitioners committed to the eradication of violence, the protection of the rights of the less privileged, and the pursuit of justice for indigent persons, calls on the relevant authorities to act decisively.

“Accountability is not optional; it is essential. It serves as a deterrent and a necessary step toward curbing the recurring cycle of violence in our society.

“The tragic fate of Princess Mediatrix could befall anyone. Nigerians deserve leadership that prioritises their peaceful existence and upholds the sanctity of human life.

“May our leaders use their respective offices wisely, responsibly, and humanely for the collective good of the citizens. “

Also, the Director General, Institute of Medical and Health Law, Nigeria, Prof. Nwakwe Abugu, described her as one who “walked this earth with grace, faith, and compassion-living purposefully, loving deeply, and standing firmly for justice, humanity, and the dignity of life.”

Abugu observed that though her days were few, her impact was profound.
