The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) and National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), Kaduna State University (KASU), has rejected the proposed selective implementation of the newly negotiated Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) agreement at the institution.
The committee, at its executive meeting held on Monday, September 14, 2026, at the SSANU Conference Room, urged the Kaduna State Government to extend the implementation of the agreement to all recognised staff unions in the university.
The JAC described the proposal to restrict the benefits of the agreement to academic staff as unacceptable, saying such an arrangement would be unfair to non-academic workers who also contribute to the running and development of the university.
In a statement signed by the Acting JAC Chairman, Comrade Aliyu Garba, and the JAC Secretary, Comrade Dahiru Musa, the committee said the state government should adopt an inclusive approach in implementing the agreement.
According to the committee, “all the universities that implemented the FGN agreements have done so to all the unions in their respective universities without discrimination.”
It therefore called on the Kaduna State Government to ensure fairness and equity by extending the agreement to all unions in KASU.
The JAC stressed that the university could not function effectively if any category of its workforce was excluded from benefits arising from negotiated agreements.
“No university can function effectively when any category of its workforce is left behind,” the committee said.
It argued that KASU was a collective enterprise sustained by the contributions of both academic and non-academic staff, adding that no group of workers should be deliberately excluded from benefits arising from agreements negotiated with the Federal Government.
The committee consequently called for “fairness, equity and equal treatment for all unions” in the implementation of the FGN/University-based Unions Agreements.
The JAC also urged the state government to consider the need for industrial harmony and the overall development of the institution in reaching a decision on the matter.
Reaffirming its solidarity among the affected unions, the committee declared: “We stand together. We speak with one voice. We will not be divided.”
