A maritime industry stakeholder and patron of the Maritime Correspondents’ Organisation of Nigeria (MARCON), Tochukwu Ezisi, will chair the organisation’s conference on sustainable fishing in Nigeria.
The conference, scheduled for Wednesday, September 30, at Rockview Hotel, Apapa, will focus on the theme, “Sustainable Fishing in Nigeria: Pathways to Growth, Food Security and Coastal Livelihoods.”
Ezisi will also deliver the keynote address at the event, which is expected to bring together policymakers, regulators, maritime security agencies, fishing industry operators, researchers, maritime training institutions and other stakeholders.
The participants are expected to discuss the challenges facing Nigeria’s fishing industry and ways of making the sector more productive, while examining its role in food security, job creation and economic growth.
MARCON said Ezisi’s involvement as chairman and keynote speaker would bring valuable industry experience to discussions on the sustainable development of Nigeria’s fisheries sector and the wider blue economy.

Chairman of the Conference Planning Committee, Paul Ogbuokiri, described Ezisi’s participation as a privilege for the organisation, saying his experience in the maritime sector would enrich discussions at the conference.
“Having High Chief Tochukwu Ezisi, a patron of MARCON, chair the conference and deliver the keynote address is a privilege for the organisation.
We believe his experience and understanding of the maritime sector will enrich the discussions and provide valuable perspectives on the pathways to a sustainable and productive fisheries industry in Nigeria,” Ogbuokiri said.
He said the conference would seek practical solutions to the problems affecting the fishing sector and promote stronger cooperation among stakeholders.
According to him, the discussions would also focus on opportunities to improve food security, create sustainable livelihoods and boost the contribution of fishing to Nigeria’s maritime economy.
